As part o f the residency, artists prepare a Pecha Kucha presentation to introduce their work to the group. The Pecha Kucha format consists of 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each, advancing automatically for a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. This format invites you to distill your practice into its most essential ideas and moments.

But what does a Pecha Kucha look like? There are plenty of examples on YouTube, you can watch one here and another here. These two examples are about the Pecha Kucha format. You can find other examples online of people using the format to present about all sorts of topics, you’ll be using the format to present your artistic practice.

Artists will speak live while their slides advance on an automatic timer, allowing you to focus on sharing your ideas and work rather than manually advancing slides. This is not meant to be a formal lecture, but a way to offer connect for your practice, inspirations, and current questions. These presentations help build shared understanding within the residency and create a starting point for conversation, feedback, and connection.

Slide Format & Technical Requirements

Your presentation must contain exactly 20 slides (no more, no less). This means that if you include a title page, it’ll count as one of your 20 slides and will be on screen for 20 seconds while you introduce yourself.

Your presentation must run offline. This means no links to YouTube, Vimeo, or anywhere else that requires internet.

If you want to include a video clip on one of your slides, the video should be trimmed to the exact 20 seconds you want shown.

Presentation Night Logistics

Artist Presentations will take place in the evenings during the first week of the residency session.

The order of presentations will be determined by the residency staff.

Artists will speak live while slides advance automatically every 20 seconds.

Presentations will be divided across multiple nights, depending on the number of artists in residence.

A Q&A will follow each set of artist presentations at the end of the night.

FAQ

I’m a writer/my practice is text based, what do I show? Find images that reflect what you’re talking about. Choose images to “set the scene” visually for what you’re saying.

I’m busy, can I just bring my presentation file with me to the residency? No! We need time to download your files and prepare the automated presentations before the beginning of the residency. Please submit your files on time!

I will be photographing my newest work after the submission deadline, can I submit late? This presentation is meant to introduce the group to your practice, not necessarily show your most recently completed work. You’ll have plenty of time to share newer work with the group as you connect beyond the presentations.
